My Children Make Me Smile
posted November 28, 2006 - 11:58amThis Monday was a very big day for me. It was my son's first soccer practice. I played up to one year in college before I got hurt and couldn't play anymore. I have always loved the sport and am thrilled that he is getting his first taste of it. Hopefully he develop the taste for it the way I did but, I don't want to push him or be a "Soccer Dad". This was more of a way to get him into organized sports which I believe has a huge impact on every interaction we have. I can tell you he had a great time. The Coach was great and as much as it killed me I sat back and let him do his thing. He taught them very basic things like kicking. He play games with them. My son loved the red light/green light game. Coach would yell "redlight" and the youngins would have to stop dribbling. Once, the coach yelled "Peanut butter" and my son laughed hysterically. He talked about it the whole way home and giggled each time. My son does not know how to laugh politely so when he laughs it is a full belly laugh that truly brightens my day no matter what. We(my wife and I) even tickle him once in awhile to hear him laugh. That's when it hit me, it truly is the little things that make us smile. When I come home and both of my kids yell "Dadda" I produce a smile that my wife tells me I display for no one else. When my my kids tell me they love me - I feel better even if I feel good. One time my son and I were at somekinda arcade. He was playing with someother kids when I decide to step-in and play too. One kids asks "Whose that?". My son answers "That's my Dadda, he's cool!". I started laughing and my wife just rolled her eyes but I could see she was smiling too. I have everything I need in life as long as my children make me smile.
