My Day At The Price Is Right

My Day At The Price Is Right

In July of 1997 I decided to go to the Price is Right at CBS, which is in Hollywood California. I had no idea that my friend and I would have to wait in line for eight hours, but it was worth the experience, and the tickets were free.

When we went through the line, we had to go through a metal detector, and we also had a short interview with a man named Roger. We also had to fill out paper work, agreeing that we wouldn't sell any of our prizes. We also had to do other paper work, like our social security information. We also could not be friends, family, or employed by The Price is Right, etc., After doing all that, and waiting for eight hours, my friend had an attitude, but I was excited still.

The building we were in looked like a train station, but without a train or the tracks. There were sandwiches that we could purchase for around $3.00, since we had to wait for so long. (I'm sure the sandwiches would cost more now). There was also a suvenier shop where you could purchase T-shirts, coffee mugs, etc., with Bob Barker's picture on them. I was wearing a shirt that said, "I was spayed to meet Bob Barker". I had that shirt made before I left Klamath Falls, which is where I'm from. I don't know how I created my own fan club, (maybe it was my shirt), but when it was my turn for the interview, a whole bunch of people was cheering for me.

We finally got to go into the studio, and I found out that the studio only seated 320 people. I though that my odds were pretty good. I was so excited just to be there, that every time a name was called, I jumped up, so they zoomed the cameras in on me. I was told that they like enthusiastic people, so they might of regretted not picking me.

During a commercial, a lady asked Bob Barker for a kiss; He said, "Oh no, I learned my lesson". This was right after the scandel about him having an affair with one of the "Barker's Beauties". Bob Barker had the whole audience laughing, because they knew what he meant.

As I said earlier, my name was never called, but I had a good time anyway. I always get to reflect on this memory, because my mother recorded the taping of this show. I plan to go back some day.

Nice story

Sounds as if you had fun!! I reckon if I ever won a big prize I would declare it and pay taxes on it too, so scared of fraud http://freelance-writer-jobs.blogspot.com

Winnings? In Oregon on Lottery winnings you have to pay I-Tax

I've won a couple of big payouts on Oregon Keno. One for $4003 and one for $1750, and had to report it on my state and federal income tax. I don't think I received any 1099 on it, I just reported it. _________________

Probably a 1099-MISC

The 1099 does cover lottery and other sweepstakes-type winnings, in addition to what we make through Google AdSense. The 1099-MISC seems to be the most common form they send out. CLICK HERE TO JOIN XOMBA TODAY!

The Price is WRONG, Bob!

That was an interesting story about going on The Price is Right. (would've been better if you had won something!) I've always wondered about not being able to sell the prizes..What about someone who lives in a small home and wins a huge dining room set or a pool table?? Or someone who lives in a small apartment in NYC and wins a speedboat? Do some people just have to turn down the prizes because they can't afford them or have anywhere to keep them? I know (in the past with Bob) some of the fans who go see the show aren't in really high tax-brackets and may have saved up just for that trip to go see the show. As with all prizes and winnings, over a certain amount.. ($500-600??) you have to pay fed tax. (well, you're supposed to anyway..according to the IRS lol) I'm sure the show has to send winners 1099s tax forms of whatever winnings are documented on..(I did get one one year from some winnings, but forgot if it was a 1099 or other form) PyraBang, The People's Media! If you live in Oregon there is no tax. We have no sales tax here. You might get stuck with sometimes Fed Excise Tax? Hey James, what about Fed Ex. Tax and the Price Is Right??

Hey Sherry*

This was fun to read, I felt the excitement! I've wanted to go see the "Price is Right" live since I was 7 years old. I cannot believe you have to fill out so much paper work and wait in line so long......still worth it :)

Price Is Right - I love your first-person story!

How fortunate you were to be there and see the great Bob Barker. When I was a kid Bob did Truth or Consequences, and always mentioned Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. The town actually changed their name to match the show. Even in the early days Bob had great influence. I loved your story. I, still, someday, wish to get to the Price is Right. I would have picked you... +1 __________________________ It does matter what you believe, but, what you believe does not matter if you do not act upon your beliefs. you can not vote on the truth --Pope John Paul II, 1995
