My Fat Giggles!

My Fat Giggles!

About a month ago, a new family moved in to our neighborhood and until yesterday, I hadn't had a chance to welcome them or just stop by and see if they needed anything.

Last night, my daughter and I had an opportunity to take a walk on the public greenway paths behind our house and we happened to run in to the mom of the new family on the block. She was collecting buckets of blackberries from the bushes that line the paths.

We introduced ourselves to her and found out that her husband was going to teach at Portland State University as a visiting Professor for this next academic year and that they were from Mexico City.

I was thrilled because I love to practice my Spanish and here was a really nice gal willing to listen to me butcher her language. On the other hand, she was thrilled because I was willing to listen to her butcher our language. It was a win-win with some delicious wild blackberries thrown in.

As we wrapped up the conversation, she asked if she could join me and my daughter from time to time on our walks. We accepted whole-heartedly and she felt comfortable to tell us that she had some weight to lose and wanted to walk a lot.

I added that the paths extended for miles around the city and that she could get a great workout by following them. She put her blackberry bucket down and held up her right arm as if to show off her bicep.

"See?" she said while smacking her tricep with the opposite hand, "My fat giggles!"

Talk about an ice-breaker! My daughter and I burst out laughing and it took a few seconds before we could tell her she meant "jiggles". All three of us started laughing again and my daughter and I decided that from now on, fat would "giggle" instead of jiggle because it just sounded so much more positive!

So, if you have fat that giggles also, please join us on our nightly greenway walks. Be warned that we stop every two or three minutes to gorge ourselves on those delicious blackberries!

Peace,

Mia NW

Taking a walk...

Great story, very well written. It's funny how I barely met anyone from NYC on Xomba while I was still in NYC, but here in Oregon I already met you and I have only been here a little less than two months. Maybe we could take a walk in Mount Hood, that's a place I really want to go see. I already went to Multnomah Falls and that was breathtaking!

I think my fat giggles too.

Funny story, and very endearing. I really do enjoy reading your writing style. I have taken to walking with some of the ladies in my office. It has been a month now, and I am hearing a lot less giggling! +1 -to your health! FreeCracker4Jack Would you like to earn money writing similar articles? CLICK ME!
