My fear of Motorcycles

My fear of Motorcycles

I have always had a fear of motorcycles. It began when my aunt and uncle were riding seperate motorcycles and both crashed on the same day in the same accident. They were riding down the road when a rural mail carrier pulled out in front of them. The mail carrier claimed to not have seen them. Both my aunt and uncle were serverly injured. Both had broken backs. It took them both over two years to heal.

That was about twenty five years ago. I thought that as I grew up that I would overcome that fear. No such luck. My dear sweet fiancee has always had a love for motorcycles. Since the beginning of our relationship nineteen years ago he has had a bike. In the beginning I didn't really mind him riding. He was careful, and wore his helmet. Seeing his face and the joy that he got from riding was priceless.

About eight months ago though that all changed. He was involved in an accident. It was a pretty bad one at that. He broke his ankle when the bike went down. The doctors told him that he was lucky it was just his ankle. It took time but he healed completely.

This past June shortly after I moved back home to be closer to him, he was riding his motorcycle late one night after leaving my place. He seen a short distance ahead of him five deer. He began to slow down, when he hit the second of the deer with his arm. The bike went out from under him and he was laying helplessly in the middle of the road. Thankfully a car came by and the driver seen him laying in the road. The driver stayed with Victor until help arrived.

Victor called me from the ambulance to tell me what happened and that he was being taken to the hospital. Not knowing how badly he had been hurt I rushed to be with him. As he was wheeled into the room I saw him for the first time after the wreck. His elbow had been shattered. He had road rash all over his shoulder and leg. He was lucky. He had not been wearing his helmet that night and he didn't recieve any head wounds at all.

His arm is finally beginning to heal now. On Saturday this week, I recieved a text from him. He was in the next state over visiting a friend. The friend had just gotten a new bike and asked Victor to test it out. Right after he started out on the bike, he had only gotten up to about fifteen miles per hour. He hit a rock or walnut in the road and the bike slide from underneath him. He had again hit his elbow. He didn't feel like he had done any damage to it this time. Although he was fairly certain that he had broken  a couple toes. As it turns out he didn't. They were just ectremely sore.

I can't ask him to stay off the bikes because I know that it is one thing that he enjoys in life. I have told him that someone higher up than me is trying to tell him something though. I know that he will again get back on a bike. I will be here waiting for that call. Once again I will go to be by his side as he recovers. I just pray that he will recover again.
