My first JaCon.
posted May 16, 2008 - 3:54pmOk, I've been to one comic book convention, Heroes Con. After this weekend I will no longer be an anime con virgin. Today is day 1. Costumes ranging from horrible to fantastic abound. Voice actors available to talk to, informative panels and fun activities have been schedualed for the weekend. There's also a dealer's room filled with goodies for fans of Japanese culture, anime, manga, and anything considered a part of the 'indie' designer toy scene. Sounds fun right? Too bad I haven't been able to enjoy it. So far day 1 has been a run around. Mapquest cannot tell it's left from it's right. This gave us a 20 minute detour since the convention is in a hotel off the highway. We arrived about 2 hours before check in time, so to get rid of the bad ju-ju we decide to hit the dealer's room. It was fabulous. Not even five minutes in there and I talked to some Japanese goth rock chicks and saw a teenager dressed compleatly in packets of Ramen. If she goes to college and pays her own way she'll learn that outfit might save her from starvation. At check in time my boyfriend and I do just that. We get up to our room and there are other people in it. Let that sink in. Ok, we're staying at the hotel that the convention is being held in so they over booked. No problem. Three rooms later (because they also had people already in them) we finally have our own room. To apologize the hotel gives us a coupon for a free breakfast. Thanks, we probably won't wake until lunch time. Now it really wasn't the people's fault, it's the company's. This hotel has been bought by Ramada and decided that they would put in a new system that keeps messing up. Wasn't I suppose to be having fun? So far:JaCon 1, Ramada 0. Let's hope the rest of the trip goes better. Stay tuned....
