In the meantime why don't you settle down to watch some good old romantic movies to set the mood right?

Want to know my list of the Top Five romantic movies that will move your heart and bring tears into your eyes? Well, here they are:

1. Casablanca : 1942

CasablancaCasablanca

This is an old black and white classic romantic love story featuring Humphrey Bogart with his best acting talent in this film with Ingrid Bergman also giving a very strong performance making this movie one of the greatest movies of all time. I love watching this film any number of times and it always has the same effect on me. There are some very classic dialogues in this movie that you will never forget. So get a DVD and settle down with a bag of Popcorn...

2. Gone With The Wind : 1939

Gone With The WindGone With The Wind

Starring: Vivien Leigh, Clark Gable. Who can forget this classic movie that still continues to charm audiences with its sweeping love story spanning the years of the civil war and the decade following. I read the book before seeing the movie and so each and every scene in the movie was etched deep into my mind. I was fascinated by Scarlett O Hara in the movie and charmed by the handsome Rhett Butler...Who can forget the dialogues of the movie that were so intense with emotions...! If you haven't still seen this one..Then Don't wait anymore..You don't know what you are missing.

3. Roman Holiday : 1953

Roman HolidayRoman Holiday

Starring : Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn is a very romantic color movie that will enthrall you till the end. I had watched this movie a long time ago when in college, and really loved the story. A simple romance that every girl would wish for...

4. An Affair To Remember: 1957

Starring : Cary Grant, Deborah Kerr. This is another classic black and white romantic movie which can never be forgotten. The story is intense with emotions till the end with the classic climax at the Empire state building..Who can forget that scene. Cary Grant looks very handsome and so vulnerable in the movie, which was the reason that most women probably wept buckets of tears while watching the movie. Don't miss this one..Its the original story which has been copied many times in later movies but none had the impact that this one did...!

5. When Harry Met Sally : 1989

When Harry Met SallyWhen Harry Met Sally

Starring : Billy Crystal, Meg Ryan. This movie is a romantic comedy between two people who get involved in a love-hate relationship ultimately falling in love after a series of other failed relationships in their lives. The dialogues are simply hilarious between the two people and also very deep with meaning...! That is if you get it, of course! Worth every penny and can watch it over and over again...!
"When Harry Met Sally will have you believing in fate and taking a second look at those whom enrich your life."

Remakes...of hollywood movies

in Bollywood is a done thing.."Mann" is the Hindi remake of "An Affair to Remember" starring Aamir Khan and Manisha Koirala, which was BTW a total flop...!

New Movies...

Well, frankly, i haven't really been able to follow the newer Hollywood movies that much and so wouldn't have been able to make a fair list of the most romantic amongst them. Thanks for your comment Barbie 1305

Remakes of remakes

Funny you should mention that An Affair to Remember is a remake. The later movie, Sleepless in Seattle, is loosely based on an Affair to Remember, particularly meeting at the top of the building in NYC. JOIN US IN TOASTING YOUR FUTURE SUCCESS!

Most True Loves...

do end up like that in real life..That's the irony of life. But, then that's what keeps the love alive, or should I say, "romance" alive. Thanks a lot for your comments Carracer, Taprial and Meg A Wright. @Meg A Wright - Welcome to Xomba.

Love these Movies

I haven't seen "When Harry Met Sally" but I absolutely love all of the rest of the movies. "An Affair to Remember" was a remake of the 1939 film "Love Affair" staring Irene Dunne and Charles Boyer, which is just as excellent a film. I followed the link you had, and later found this quote about the movies..."Seven of the top 10 greatest love stories feature couples that do not end up together in the end." Interesting, huh? ~Meg A. Wright

When Harry Met Sally

I loved that movie, I still do. In fact, I downloaded the script just so I can enjoy it more and keep reading it every once in a while. Bare Essentials

I would also add

Love story, My fair lady, Pretty woman, Jerry McGuire, The English Patient, Last Tango in Paris, Dr Zhivago too..among many others... Great list. Did enjoy those movies and wouldn't mind seeing them again. +1

Can't argue with wHATUP!

Yes, I loved the movie "The Shop on the corner" and can't argue that James Stewart did look very cute in that movie. It was a very cute story too. I would have added it to my list of ten movies most definitely! On the other hand, Vertigo was supposed to be a "suspense thriller" more than a romantic story, like most Hitchcock movies and I could make a separate list for those kind of movies! And I think you are confusing Roman Holiday with another movie starring Audrey Hepburn, "Breakfast at Tiffany's" where she plays the role of a "hooker". In Roman holiday she is a princess who runs away from home for an adventure and meets Peck who charms her on the tour to Rome...! Maybe I would also throw in "Singing in the rain" and "sound of music" too and who can forget "King and I" and another classic "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner"...And the list could go on and on... Thanks for your comment wHATUP.

@ Jdubhub

Yes, those were good movies too and actually I had started making a list with ten movies in mind, but by the time I wrote 5, I had to give up due to lack of time... Thanks for your comment.

Not horrible choices but......

Overplayed and overindulged over time. I am ok with a couple of them but for me, newer movies are making romantic claims on the top numbers. The Notebook is new but great movie. Who isn't looking for that kind of love? I could name a few more but I have to say that one has my heart for the moment. I am not a hopeless romantic, because I would always prefer an action movie, but if having to choose, I would start there personally. JOIN MY WORLD HERE
