My Love, Hate Relationship With The T.V. Show Wifeswap

I really enjoy watching ABC's hit television show "Wifeswap." Wife Swap airs Fridays 8/7 central.

Right from the beginning this TV. show captivates you. While being introduced to the first family, your eyes start to become glued to the t.v. screen. You learn about the first family's way of life, about their children and home, as well as what there family rules are. Next you are introduced to the second family, always entirely opposite of the first family.

The show really takes off when each mother of the family travels hours away to their "new home" for two weeks. They will be spending the next two weeks with the alternate family. Each mom, and family is required for one week to live by the other family's way of life.

At the end of week one, each new mom makes a new set of rules for their new family to live by. During week two the families must live by their "new mom's" set of rules.

When the complete two-week period has expired, both couples are reunited. The two couples meet at the designated meeting place where they have a face-to-face discussion.

What I really Love about Wifeswap is the huge window of opportunity the experiences gives to each family to learn another person's way of life. There are so many amazing things that these families are learning from one another. I really enjoy learning about different families, and their way of living.

One thing I really Hate about Wife Swap is the way some of the new families, and new moms treat each other. I have watched many of these people treat each other horribly; sometimes it even gets a bit vulgar. I have seen persons of different ethnicities than their new family being treated wrongly. The other thing I Hate about wifeswap is the way the "new family" tends to act when they receive their "new rules." I cannot believe the way these children and grown adults sometimes act over the rules given to them. These people signed on to do the t.v. show and need to act like civil people and do what they are told.

I'm sure it is somewhat scripted.

Ya know, I am pretty sure that some parts of the show are scripted. I have a really hard time with reality t.v. I understand that because of producers, the show is only real to a certain extent. I do not undertand though why these families would act so ridiculously scripted or not for the whole world to see. I wonder as you do, if the changes each family has made after their experience really does "stick." I would sure hope so cause the ways some of them are raising their families kind of scares me. Some people are so closed minded!!! All in all I do not watch a lot of t.v., let alone reality t.v. but I have to say Super Nanny Is An Awsome Lady! She Is one to watch ;) Nice to hear from you jdubhub.

Scripted?

Is there any chance that the "drama" is scripted by the producers to get a ratings bump? I have never watched the show beyond the first ten minutes, mostly because I have a cynic's eye toward "reality" television. I never got into Survivor or Survivorman or Amazing Race or any of those other shows, either. I did watch Supernanny for a short while, though. If the purpose of the show is to show families how good they have it with the current mother and maybe to gain an appreciation for other cultures and ethnicities, they have an rather roundabout way of getting there IMHO and I would be curious to see if the purported changes in each family's appreciation "stuck" after a year. Anyway, it was a good article, L., and a better insight into the show for me than the first ten minutes as I described. CLICK HERE TO JOIN XOMBA TODAY!
