My new pseudonym, a nom de plume, or perhaps simply nomdeplume
posted November 3, 2009 - 11:01pmAnonymity… I needed a change. While I doubt my meek list of writings have been yet been discovered by my contemporaries, enemies and friends, I still found a need for privacy. With my current screen name I can write about politics and other sensitive subjects without everyone, or
perhaps anyone, knowing my true identity. It is moderately freeing. I like the simplicity of simply calling my new screen name “nom de plume.” Nom de plume is French for: name of the pen. It is a pen name. I now can write about the topics that interest me without having to worry whether my characters will be equated with real life people close to me. Like Michael Chrichton who wrote under the pseudonym of Jeffrey Hudson. This nom de plume provided him with the ability to write with liberty about a subject which was completely unacceptable in the 1960’s: Abortion. While I do not consider myself a ground breaker, I do like to get a rise out of people, and my new pseudonym allows me some newly creative freedom. Expect great (controversial, as well as mundane) things from this new pseudonym.
