My opinion on Nadya Suleman birthing 14 children.

I have spent the last couple of days thinking about Ms. Suleman and the controversy that surrounds her. Basically, my thoughts came to this question - Should we have the right to bear as many children as we desire?

My heart says no. You should have to prove that you are able to provide for the child/children you are planning to have without relying on the kindness of charities or government programs. But, realistically how the *bleep* do you do that? How do keep adults from having sex? You can't, its never gonna happen.

So then we get to my head and my ginormous brain says yes, you can have as many kids as you desire. Ms. Suleman had 6 more embryos and she wanted them. Why can't she have them, they're hers? As much as you, me and the mindless hordes want to shake our collective heads and tell ourselves that she is being irresponsible; it is still her decision and what she decides is best.

So where does that leave me and my feeble attempt to sort this all out? Well, I would hope nobody in their right mind would try and have 14 children. But, if you decide that is what you want to do, it is your right to do so.

Some OCD people wash their hands constantly or practice other rituals. This young woman had an obsession with having a lot of kids. I remember that either she or her mother used that specific word to describe her. And wHATUP, I've been meaning to mention that yes, she may have the right to pop out as many kids as she wants, but along with rights come responsibilities. The responsibility part is often overlooked, unfortunately, as in this case. She can get away with being irresponsible by hiring a publicist/agent to promote herself and her kids, setting up a website blatantly asking for donations, compelling her mother to help her care for them, and accepting other assistance, but ultimately those 14 kids are her responsibility. One of my guilty TV pleasures is TMZ. The other day they caught her outside the hospital where her latest litter is being cared for, at tens of thousands of dollars a day. (Who'll pay for that? Ultimately, taxpayers, and California is already broke.) Anyway, the cameraman asked her if she would allow her kids to be interviewed. She actually replied, "No! That would be exploitation." So to her OCD disorder I would add delusive disorder. I don't think she has a clue what she's done, to her kids and to her family.

The grandmother of the octuplets is 10 months behind in her rent. Oh, yeah, I forsee donations and someone getting their house for free. Doctors

If the doctor didn't break any law, there's no reason to put him in jail. As for the mother, she obviously has a strong desire to have children, but I don't think that automatically makes her "mentally ill". So I don't understand how it could be claimed that the doctor took advantage of a mentally ill person "all for money" (the doctor did exactly as as patient requested, from what I've read; it's not as if she wanted two embryos implanted and he talked her into having more). Which brings up another fact: the doctor did NOT implant 8 embryos. Six were implanted, and two of those split and became twins. So the patient was not misled: he implanted the number of embryos that the patient requested. If there is no law on the number of embryos that can be implanted, maybe there should be. Especially since the embryos can split, as we've seen here. But it sounds like people on both sides of the issue are jumping to conclusions without knowing all the facts.

The Doctor is the criminal, not Nadya.

I don't understand how you all can advocate prison time for this woman. You need compassion for mental problems not prison time. The doctor is the one that should be in prison. He took advantage of her mental problems all for money. He didn't refer her to a psychologist. And you don't impregnant 8 embroyos and then late tell women you need to abort some. You can't abort your own children. He mislead her, but not telling her all 8 could survive. I repeat. Germany, and Italy limit 3 embroyos by law at one time, and we need to institute this here, so we can put the doctor in prison, and stop this from happening again.

She's a very, very self-absorbed young lady and probably has OCD, from the way she talks about her single-minded obsession with having a lot of children. As an only child, the last thing I thought about was having tons of kids when I grew up to compensate for my loneliness--because I wasn't at all lonely, I actually felt privileged and honored to be the one and only kid. In my case, I went from contemplating having maybe two children to having zero, because I decided at an early age that this world is already way overloaded with selfish humans. BTW, wHATUP, you have heard of birth control and abortion, haven't you? ;)

Her parents are not behind her. Her dad has gone back to Iran to try and earn more money, her mother has come out and said she believes this is all a mistake on here daughters part and she does not approve. Just yesterday I heard the mother was hit with a 3 month restraining order from speaking on her daughter or the children. Nice "family" Visit my homepage here
