Shipboard Familiarization

Reaction:

Not all school given a chance to board in T/S-Kapitan Felix Oca to be familiarized to the parts of the ship and to see what is inside the true ship. Being an Engine cadet, the shipboard familiarization gives me an idea how is the engine of the ship and how it looks like. The experience gives me a confidence and idea to study well because it is not a joke to handle the engine room. It can cause death if your are not attentive and have no knowledge about that thing. We will become an engine officer someday. So we need a lot of skill and practice to control the engine room and others is in the navigational bridge. I’ve seen a lot of garbage at sea that proves that the marine life is in danger. We need to follow the rules and regulations at sea to avoid the destruction of marine environment. When we go in the engine room, I have many questions how the engine works, because there’s a lot of equipment in the engine room. When ENSIGN Tolentino explained the functions of equipment, I later found out that the function of that particular equipment. About the safety onboard, there are assigned role of every crew in case of fire and disorder onboard. I’ve also found out that there are six lifeboats in T/S-KFO and 12 liferafts. There are fire plan and emergency plan in the TS-KFO and the fire plan show where the fire exit and fire fighting equipment. When the TS-KFO started her voyage, it is much better to observe because it is true to life, and I saw how the Captain instruct the crew giving commands and the Bosun operate the mooring winch and anchor. I learned that you need to have a good relationship onboard. For me, it was a very nice experience and unforgettable to board the TS-KFO. Thank you for the DST, for giving me a chance to have a shipboard familiarization.
