My thoughts on the documentary "Right America: Feeling Wronged -- Some Voices From the Campaign Trail"

My thoughts on the documentary "Right America: Feeling Wronged -- Some Voices From the Campaign Trail"

So, I watched the documentary Right America:Feeling Wronged the other night and had some thoughts; not the thoughts you might think if you saw the program.

I thought it was odd that Alexandra Pelosi stuck herself in the movie. Yes, yes, I know that her name is all over the credits but I still thought it odd that she would do such a thing given the bias that she would probably bring to the film. This is what I am talking about:
In one scene Sean Hannity is greeting some of John McCain's supporters when Ms. Pelosi sticks the camera in his face in that kinda "ambush" style that these fake documentaries (more on what I consider a documentary later) like so much. Hannity answers the questions well and has a composure about him then, he pokes fun at Pelosi by pointing out to the crowd that she is Nancy Pelosi's daughter. To which she responds, jokingly, that he was going to get her killed. And they both had a nice little laugh.
This struck me odd. Here you are trying to show the passion and desperation of the Republican "base" and you are going to throw your name and mug in the middle of it? Not a bright move. I don't know whether or not she was doing for as a ego boost or a "hey, stupid, here is who is doing this movie so take it with a grain of salt". Either way, I didn't like it.

Then there was a moment in the movie that really smacked me in the face. Pelosi, of course, shows all these Republican supporters giving outrageous statements which for the most part can be tossed to the category of pyscho babble or the category of people just wanting to be on TV. But there was one scene made me think a little bit. It was the scene that, I think, most people remember at least hearing about during the campaign. A lady stumbles into calling Obama an "Arab" to McCain's face and McCain takes the mic from her and tells her that she is wrong.

What made this lady think this was something that McCain would support or back up? Did she actually think that even if Obama was Muslim, that we would become a nation of Islam? Did she not know there is freedom of religion in this country? Yes, I know you want to vote for people who are like you but look at what the guy stands for. Is he preaching Islamic ideals? Has he in the past?

And that brought me back to freedom of religion. There is no true freedom of religion in this country. If you do not believe in the Christian ideals you will not progress to the point of governing this nation in any capacity. I personally would like to see what a couple of Buddhist in the Senate might do - a man has his dreams. And I consider Judaism a part of those Christiam ideals - progressive I know.

As for the movie itself - I tire of this type of "documentary". I consider a true documentary where a director sets up a camera and films what has happened, what is happening or what might happen. I allow a little leeway for questions as long as they are probing and non-bias like: What is happening? How do you feel? etc. They should show both sides of the issue; the proponents view; the opponents view. And the director should let me decide; do not decide for me. I don't want see how smart you are. I don't want see how you empathize with the "wronged". When the director does these last three things, the film becomes a movie with semi-script, a lead actor (the director) and ceases to be a documentary.

Just my thoughts.
