My Top Nine Beach Tunes-Generations Of Music In The Making

Summer is the best time for putting the top down, cranking up the car stereo and taking off to the beach for summer fun. Lounging in the warm sand, taking in the hot sun, listening to the mellow sounds of these hot tunes. Compile a CD for your next beach party.

1.Surfin' USA - The Beach Boys. A Beach Boy favorite. One of the greatest beach tunes of all time. Released in early 1963. This song became The Beach Boys' first big hit in the US. This song makes me feel exactly what it says. I can't wait for summer. Makes want to grab a surf board and hit the waves.

2.Wildwood Days - Bobby Rydell. Philadelphia's own Bobby Rydell sings those crazy summer days and nights in wild wild Wildwood New Jersey. The song came out in 1963. During the 1960s, Bobby Rydell had nineteen hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. He was one the teen idols of his time.

3.Summer In The City - Lovin' Spoonful. This edgy 1966 hit single played good time sounds of the big bad city. Something that was way cool if you were from a small town. This song was the their only song to reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Over a period of two years in the sixties, the New York band charted a string of ten Top Forty hits.

4.Under The Boardwalk - The Drifters. This classic peaked in 1964 and has been covered by everyone from Bette Midler to The Rolling Stones to John Mellencamp. The oringinal still beats the rest. The lyrics describes a meeting between a man and his beloved lady in a seaside town, Myrtle Beach, SC, who plan to privately meet "out of the sun" and out of sight from everyone else under the boardwalk.

5.Margaritaville - Jimmy Buffet. This hit song came out in 1977 and is by far one of the very best beach songs of all time. Yes it is a great drinking song if you drink, but if you don't it still has a nice mellow beat and soft flutey sound. Jimmy Buffet is also a best selling author and owns a chain of resturants.
