My Vote for President Goes To...

I have been giving this a lot of thought. Well, not really. The election is still a little less than four months away, yet I know all I need to know about both the presumptive Republican nominee, John McCain, senator from Arizona, and the presumptive Democratic nominee, Barack Obama, senator from Illinois.

Why do I say I have all I need to know about either candidate? Simple. Because I know enough about how this country should be run to know that neither man is what this country needs to get back to its former glory as a Constitutional Republic. The fact that these two individuals are the "only" choices we really have in the November elections speaks volumes about the process and about the de facto government's esteem for the voting citizenry.

Here on Xomba, in addition to many other places, the warhawks and chickenhawks denigrate anyone who challenges our government's record in Iraq and Afghanistan as "Obama voters" without giving any statement of whom they feel is best for the job. Considering the alternative to Obama is the doddering Bush clone McCain, the best they can stand for election is someone who will be older than Ronald Reagan, if elected.

For those of us who were old enough to vote during the 1980's, Reagan napped during important meetings and was of questionable mental capacity in his final years in the White House. John McCain was a P.O.W. for several years and that took an unknown toll on his health. Is this someone we want with the finger on the "button" for the next four years?

That being said, I don't believe Obama is going to be good for the country, either. Sure, he is a gifted orator. I will give him that. I will even give him high marks for being good looking. But, like the saying goes, being accepted in politics is 70% how you look, 20% how you say it, and only 10% is what you actually say. Obama fits this to a tee. People who support him have become mesmerized by his image and oratory and few have actually taken the time to research what exactly he says.

So, with both Candidate A or Candidate B being my nominal choices, my vote goes to Candidate C, Mr. None of the Above. His popularity is just below the surface of the average voter's consciousness, but the closer we get to the actual election, the better his chances look. Don't tell me I am wasting my vote on him--I'm sure I will sleep better at night knowing that I have not contributed to the further erosion of the Constitution.

I invite all of you to do the same.

Quoting William Tecumseh Sherman

"If drafted, I will not run; if nominated, I will not accept; if elected, I will not serve." (Historical context: In 1884, there were those who wanted Sherman to run on the Republican ticket for President. This quote is his declining that consideration.)
