Mystery Auctions - Scam or Legit?

The fine print says...

"This auction is not a lottery, gambling, drawing, or anything of the such. You are simply purchasing an e-envelope, and whatever is inside of it is a gift from me to you! Please leave positive feedback for me, since you are simply purchasing an e-envelope. You are NOT guaranteed to get the amount you spent on this auction returned to you."

Welcome to the world of eBay Mystery Auctions. Since everyone wants a little something spectacular in their life, the eBay mystery auction appeals to that desire by promising... well, the unknown. eBay, by virtue of their role as the biggest auction site on the Internet, has buyers bidding on everything from MySpace accounts to Jesus likenesses in breakfast toast. The eBay Mystery Auction promises cash, gift cards, big prizes... or nothing at all. Do you feel lucky?

Here's a randomly selected MYSTERY AUCTION. Good luck!

Mystery Auction High Roller

LOL - I just played it again - won $5 that time! I guess I'm now a "high roller"!!?? Aloha ~

I May Be Crazy But I'm Not Stupid

I live in Reno Nevada. If I decide that I have too much money and need to throw some away, I can walk into any casino and they will be more than happy to lighten my load.

Mystery Auctions Illegal??

It could be illegal, not sure, but there are tons of 'em on eBay. Just go to their website and type mystery envelope in the search box. I had fun with the one I just bought - might even play it again. Did you try it?

Gambling Plain and Simple

Lets see here, you put up a dollar and win the contents of an e-envelope. This is exactly the same as a scratcher or some other form of gambling. The house takes your money and then returns some or nothing. I don't see how you can say this is any different. I would be willing to bet this is illegal...:)

Mystery Auctions - Post Your Results Here

I'm not sure if anyone from Xomba has tried the above link or not (this is not my auction - just posted it here for curiosity's sake). If any Xomba readers have won this $1 auction, how about posting your results for all of us to see? It might be interesting to see the true outcome away from the pressures of eBay's feedback system. I just got my "e-envelope" - spent $1 for the auction and won 72 cents. Not bad I guess... lost 28 cents and had some fun :-)
