Mythical creature of the day 3
posted September 1, 2009 - 4:13pmToday we will be exploring a mythical creature that has appeared in a very famous book serious as the pet of a very famous wizard. Yes I’m talking about the Harry Potter series and Dumbldore’s bird, the magical phoenix.
The Phoenix resembles a
flamed colored cross between a peacock and an eagle. It is said the phoenix bursts into flames every five hundred and forty years, only to be reborn from the ashes. It is said that the tears of the phoenix can heal a person of the Baskalisk’s venom.
The Firebird is the smaller cousin of the phoenix which comes from Russia. It is said to have feathers of gold and silver and sparkling crystal eyes. Its bird song can heal the sick and pearls will fall from its beak when it cries out. It is said a single fiery tail feather can light up an entire room.
It is possible that both the firebird and the phoenix were born from Count Raggi’s Bird of Paradise of which the male of the species has scarlet feathers under its wing. When these are raised in its courtship dance it appears as though he is dancing among flames.
The females of the species are brown with darker brown red feathers under their top layer feathers. The Bird of Paradise resemble a cross between a peacock and a pheasant.
