In what could go down as the best Wimbledon final ever Rafael Nadal outlasted Roger Federer in 5 grueling sets 6-4, 6-4 6-7, 6-7, and 9-7. John McEnroe, 3 time Wimbledon champion, stated that he believed this match is the best tennis match he has ever seen. Those are amazing words from a tennis player and commentator has seen more tennis than almost anyone on this earth.
Roger Federer, who had won the Wimbledon championships five times in a row prior to this loss, didn't go down without a heck of a fight. After being down 2 sets Federer clawed back to even and even a couple points away from a championship a few times, but fell just short.
Rafael Nadal, just 22 years of age, has now won four French Open championships as well as this Wimbledon title. Nadal is now staking the claim to being the best men's tennis player in the world.
For myself, as a sports fan, but not generally a tennis fan, this match was amazing to watch. This was an epic battle between two tremendous tennis players who just didn't want to lose. Here's hoping these two have many more matches like this one in the future!
