NCAA March Madness Field Leaves Good Teams Out

The NCAA Men's Division Basketball Selection Committee has a thankless job, but this year as ever, there are perplexing selections. Puzzling is who got left out.

It seems this year, the middling teams from the power conferences took it on the chin.

Take for example, Virginia Tech. Virginia Tech plays in the Atlantic Coast Conference -- the conference with the top power rating (R.P.I.) compared to all others. The Hokies played top-ranked UNC down to the wire in the ACC tournament semifinals, only to come up just short, and now left out. It is odd they were left out, since they finished fourth in the 12-team conference.

This year, Tech is in the cold. March Madness will still be wild when it tips off Thursday, March 20.
