Negational VS Affirmational Racial Identity Affects Presidential Voting Preferences
posted September 30, 2008 - 1:02pmThere have been many discussions in the media of how race will affect the 2008 presidential election and how it did affect the democratic primary. How minority groups think of themselves affects how they vote, according to the study linked below. Your image of yourself can be created using a positive or negative context. Here are a few examples (The below are simply examples and are in no way a message or a statement of my personal views.):
Affirmational Identity:
I am intelligent.
I am a Christian.
I am thin.
I am Latino.
Negational Identity:
I am not smart enough.
I am not a good Christian.
I am not thin enough.
I am not white enough.
The research document will examine how the self-proclaimed affirmational or negational identity of minority voters affected how they voted in the democratic primary. See how those same people, through discussions of how they thought of themselves, changed how they would have voted. This is not only a political study, but an examination of how our self-image affect what we do, say, and think.
