Nelson Chai NEW Merrill Lynch Chief Financial Officer

Nelson Chai, 42, has been named by John Thain the new Merrill Lynch Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and will join the world's largest brokerage next week.

Chai is replacing Jeffrey N. Edwards. Mr. Edwards will continue with the company in a new executive role.

John Thai was named chairman and CEO on Nov. 14 after Merrill Lynch ousted former CEO Stan O'Neal.
