Game Review:
Danger Next Door: Miss Teri Tale's Adventure is a hidden object game, and the latest in Miss Teri's Tales. The first Miss Teri Tale had her helping to find a kidnapped child by breaking into her neighbors homes, while the sequel Miss Teri Tale: Vote 4 Me was a confusing story that also involved lots of break-ins, but I never figured out what was happening. Well, it looks like the third time is the charm for Miss Teri! Danger Next Door is by far the best in the series.
When her neighbor Monty is murdered, it's up to Miss Teri to solve the case. I'm really glad I'm not living in her neighborhood. Just look at the last two games! Between the murders, kidnappings, and psychic private investigators breaking into your house snooping for clues, you'd think everyone would have moved out by now.
Anyhow, Miss Teri isn't your ordinary detective. She can see inside the dead man's mind, reading his memories and viewing his subconscious, in order to help her on the case. She still spies on other neighbors and scours the crime scene, though. The translations are much better this time around, in case you were wondering, so it's possible to follow the plot.
The graphics are done with photorealism, and include photoshopped characters with giant heads. They're a little creepy, but funny (which is probably the intention). Because the objects are photos, they look like you'd expect.
As you play, you can toggle through tabs at the bottom of the screen. The yellow tab lets you read files on your neighbors, and the red tab lets you view Miss Teri's notes. Hints are unlimited, and recharging. You have the choice between timed and untimed play.
You visit different locations, including dirty alleys, labs, and the crime scene. Everything is ridiculously cluttered! I mean, seriously dirty, yuck. Your job is to find objects and complete inventory puzzles to win. The challenge is just about right, not too easy and not too hard. You shouldn't get stuck, but if you do, there is a full walkthrough available (with screenshots).
Danger Next Door: Miss Teri Tale's Adventure is the best Miss Teri Tale yet. It's not perfect, but it's a huge improvement. Even if you weren't impressed by the first two games, it's worth revisting the series with this latest game.
