32- AND DO NOT COVET WHAT ALLAH FAVOURED WITH SOME OF YOU OVER THE OTHERS. MEN WILL HAVE A PORTION OF WHAT THEY EARNED AND WOMEN WILL HAVE A PORTION OF WHAT THEY EARN, AND ASK ALLAH OF HIS BOUNTY,
AND ALLAH HAS FULL KNOWLEDGE OF ALL THINGS.
Allah the Highest prohibits coveting. Coveting is to desire what others have and being dissatisfied with what you have.
Coveting is not ambition, and prohibiting coveting is not prohibiting ambition. It is good for the Muslim to want to improve himself and to work to earn more so that he and his family may get what they do not have. But to always feel dissatisfied with life and to feel jealous of what others have and one has not, this is very unhealthy and leads to a great deal of unhappiness.
Satisfaction is only in the heart, and the heart can never settle and be contented without being occupied with Allah. Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said that Allah the Most Exalted and Majestic said: “Occupy yourself with worshipping Me, I fill your heart with contentment and prevent you getting poor, but if you do not, I will occupy you with worry, and will not prevent you from getting poor”. (T:Quyamah;30 & Ma:Zohd;2 & A:2;358)
Allah the Highest likes us to ask Him. While human king do not to be asked, for their wealth is limited however great it may be, and their resources are not endless. Allah’s has limitless resources, and He likes to be asked and likes to give. In fact, Allah the Highest becomes angry with those who do not ask. Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said: “He who does not ask Allah, Allah will be angry with him”. (T:Dawat;24 & A:2;442)
Indeed, asking Allah the Highest i.e. Dawa is one of the most important aspects or worship. Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said: “The Dawa is the worship”. (D:Wetr;32 & T:Dawat;1 & Ma:Dawa;1 & A:4;267,271)
In asking Allah the Highest, we acknowledge that He is our Lord, the only Giver, who has unlimited resources.
Allah the Highest knows all things and can do all things. Also Allah the Highest knows what we feel and what we think, and what we say or ask.
