Netflix Sending Out Scratched Movies That Won't Play
posted January 15, 2009 - 1:51pmI wonder if any one else has had this problem. Lately many of the movies that I have been getting from Netflix have quit playing halfway through the movie or won't start at all because of scratches in the DVD surface.
If you are lucky you can eject the Netflix DVD, clean it off, and try to navigate back to the same spot in the movie. Other times you will not be able to finish the movie.
At first I wondered if I just had a picky DVD player so I bought a new Sony, top of the line DVD player only to have the same results.
Part of the problem is that other Netflix users are not so careful with the DVD's. They have watched it with no problems and so what if it gets a few scratches from lying on the coffee table to being played with like a frisbee by the toddler.
Why does Netflix not have some kind of a quality control machine that rejects scratched up DVD's and prevents them from being mailed out. I'm sure such technology does exist. I can see the scratches with my naked eye. Perhaps they just need to hire a few minimum wage earning workers to visually inspect the movies under a light.
It almost makes Netflix not worth having if one movie out of ten is bad. In my case I have found problems with about three out of ten. There is absolutely nothing more frustrating that not being able to finish a movie and having to search Google for how it ended.
All I want to say to Netflix is "get your act together". Get some kind of device that scans your DVD's for flaws before they are mailed out. There is no excuse for getting Netflix DVD's in the mail that are so scratched up they wont' play.

We're having the same issue. A lot are unplayable. One disk arrived with a big crack across it. I requested a replacement and got the same disk with the crack back. I spoke to Netflix customer service who said there was a quality control issue with discs and that's why they are trying to get more movies online.
