Networking has always been an important part of the MBA experience. Some would even venture to say that it is the most important part of the MBA experience. The rise of social networking sites such as Linkedin, Facebook, and even Myspace has completely changed networking. Before, you were
limited to your own alumni network, but now there are no limits to what you can do. Below, we’ve included some tips on how to take advantage of these opportunities.
1. Linkedin- This is probably one of the most useful tools on the web to find contacts. More often than not, those contacts will be happy to grant your request for an informational interview. A simple search for company name will return an extensive list of results.
2. Finding Contact Information: Once you’ve found who you are looking it is quite simple to find their contact info. If you click on advanced search in Google and type in “@companyname.com” you will eventually run across somebody’s email address from that organization. What that will give you is the syntax: (eg.

3. Finding MBA Recruiters- Another simple tactic is to do a simple Google search for “MBA Recruiting, Company Name.” This will often let you know who the main contact is for MBA recruiting
4. Informational Interviews: You’ll find more often than not, most people will be willing to give you a short informational interview and this is one the most effective ways to build your network and get some insights into the company before you prepare your resume and cover letter.
5. Facebook- The rising popularity of Facebook makes it another essential resource. While it is predominantly for social networking, never underestimate the power of the information it provides
6. Social Life- Believe it or not your social life provides an abundance of networking opportunities. You never know who you could be standing next to at a bar, restaurant or club, so it definitely pays to be sociable.
