New Cure For Diabetics
posted February 22, 2007 - 12:10amThe Journal of the Association of Physicians of India has come out with a new discovery by a 'proof of concept study' in newly diagnosed type 2 diabetic patients with near normal HBAIc level that, Yogasanas can be developed as an alternative method of treatment. The study was reported to be
undertaken by two doctors , Viz.Dr Viswanathan and Dr. P.T.Chacko from Chennai, India.
The study was intended to ascertain the effects of Yogasanas, compared to that of Metformin a common drug for diabetics, and was done on a group of ten patients who received only Yogasana treatment, while another group of ten patients were administered with the above drug.. At the end of the six months period, the important observations were the reduction in HBAIc level and weightloss in the group that practised Yogasanas. The results of the HOMA (homeostasis Model Assessment) in assessing the improvements in insulin resistance was also encouraging among the patients that practised Yogasanas as per the study report. It may also be added that both the study groups had also undertaken life styles modifications during the treatment period.
The doctors are of opinion that some more research with more samples would be required to further establish the efficacy of the system.
