Listen to your favorite music for free

I heard about this website We7, which claims to offer free music. I read a little bit more about what they do at their homepage. The idea of the site intrigued me because the site claimed that anyone could get free music at the site AND the artists get paid for their music. So everyone wins right? It seems too good to be true. But then I thought about it a little more. Nothing is completely free. The site must be totally advertising supported, which makes sense. They offer free music and we have to look at advertisements.

That is a classic business structure--it's how TV shows generated revenues in the heyday of television. SO I wonder if it will work. We get free music, but have to see ads on the pages?

It turns out that the way it works at this free music site, is that an advertiser's audio message will be grafted to the song, so that each time you listen to the song in its entirety, you have to hear an advertiser's message.

It seems like that would take some of the joy out of listening to a song. But then again it is a free song. And you only get what you pay for, so who am I to complain?

I like free music as much as the next guy or gal, but I would prefer to listen to my music without any advertisements. I'll stick with 99 cent songs on itunes.

But who knows, maybe the site will be successful in its mission to provide free songs to an audience, payment to artists, and a platform for advertisers.
