New law says turn signals are optional in new vehicles
Well, it sure seems that way. I drive a Dodge Ram 1500 pickup, so I am not so concerned for my safety as I am for that of people driving gas-efficient Priuses (Prii?) and other hybrids, where the entire car is a crumple zone.
Why is it that people sharing the road with others believe stomping on the brakes and swerving into a parking lot entrance is an acceptable alternative to using the turn signal to courteously let drivers behind know that you will be turning soon?
Or worse, those drivers who slow to a crawl in a 45mph+ section of roadway and practically idle up to their turn, choosing to use the turn signal only when they are beginning their turn?
Why is it that some drivers feel compelled to shoehorn themselves into the braking distance between you and the driver in front of you on the freeway at 70mph+ without warning and without using a turn signal? You end up having to slam on your brakes to not rear-end them in the process, which makes you look like a jerk to the drivers behind you.
Why is it that some drivers believe slamming on the brakes and clicking the turn signal while in the middle of the turn is acceptable?
Why is it that some drivers believe that the mere act of turning on a turn signal while in heavy traffic gives them automatic and immediate license to swerve into the next lane, regardless of whether another car is occupying the same place they expect to shove their vehicle?
Why is it that some drivers will not pull in behind you in the slow lane on the freeway (despite there being no cars behind you for several hundred yards) to take the next exit, but instead prefer to speed up to 80mph+ in the fast lane and do a turn signal-free two lane swerve, nearly clipping you, just to get to the exit before they miss it?
Lastly, why do some drivers feel they have license to enter into the fast lane on the freeway and drive 57 mph for several miles with a long line of cars behind them just because they don't want to drive behind a tractor trailer doing 55 mph?
You would think that otherwise intelligent people would take time to review their vehicle owner's manual from time to time and even consider that there are other people on the road besides them. Is it too much to ask?

Yeah, using your turn signal is a good habit to get into.
I'm not sure if drivers are careless or don't understand how many accidents can be avoided by using a simple signal.
Hear Hear
So very true. I agree completely as I have had to go through all that. I guess they think they are invincible.
You mean it happens there too?
I thought maybe it unique to only my area. I think many drivers think it's cool or a way to display shear arrogance by not using their turn signals.
My other pet peeve is those who don't understand acceleration ramp and deceleration ramp. When you enter the freeway you should be going at the same speed as the traffic and not expect everyone is going to slow down to 45 while you leisurely move onto the traffic. Likewise, when exiting the freeway, don't start slowing down until you are off the freeway and on the exit ramp.
turn signals
Oh I think those types are in every state they act like they cars don't even have signals on them.

Most People Just Can't Drive
That's all there is too it. We just need to drive as defensively as possible. Oh, and I have a Dodge Ram 1500 too. :)

Bad Driving
My favorites are the ones who cut you off, then stop in front of you to turn left...blinkers or not, that's just rude.

Left turns are bad for some drivers
In the area I live, there are a lot of center turn lanes into parking lots. There are some drivers that ignore the fact that they are there and stop in the traffic lane to make their left turn into the parking lot. Unless you are directly behind them, you will never get to see if they used a signal or not. All you get to wonder is why traffic on a 35mph+ lane is stopped.
DO YOU HAVE THE WRITE STUFF?
Yeah, I hate that
It's especially infuriating when someone turns into your lane, makes you brake, and then drives 5 MPH below the speed limit. And it's doubly infuriating when there isn't that much traffic to begin with. I might understand squeezing in if there were a long line of cars to wait for. But when they are only saving themselves a handful of seconds, it really gets on my nerves.
