Five-year-old Jose Salizar Jr. was hiking with his parents in the Sandia mountains on Saturday when he ran ahead a bit on the trail. Jose Sr. and his wife Charlotte say they heard the boy scream and then an animal emerged from the brush, dragging their son away. The father chased the animal, attempting to jump on its back and the animal dropped the child and fleld. What has cryptozoologists interested is the parents' explanation.

The parents say they don't know what the animal was, just that it was a short, stocky, brown animal. They say they don't remember the animal having a tail. This, naturally, has raised questions as to what, exactly is out there stalking the popular hiking spot. Dogs trained to scent mountain lions found nothing when brought to the scene. Reports say that the child, who is now listed in serious condition with multiple puncture wounds at UNM Hospital, weighs 45 pounds. Cryptozoologists are speculating as to what in the animal could have been.
