New Music Project- Conception

From the simple act of my friend Dustin coming over to keep me company (and use my washing machine) launched a new musical project. In the past we worked together on a music project called “Plucked Right from the Brain,” of course that didn’t go
too far with only a few songs recorded by me despite the amount of planning and base work I had already laid out. However this new project, which we still have yet to decide on a name for began more as a fluke. I happened to have both a bass and an electric guitar with a number of cables but only one practice amplifier, and he had an amplifier in his van that he brought in allowing us both to jam.
This is how it started; from us jamming along trying to get back into the groove of us playing together again we talked about many ideas. We discussed past songs I had written that needed music to the lyrics, the idea of using only the two of us and then finally coming to the agreement of finding a lead vocalist, a female vocalist preferably. Assuming we find said vocalist and she can assist with the lyric and music writing we figured we can keep things simple, using our computers to record synthesizers, drum beats, and other programmed music and playing that thru a mp3 player, Dustin acquiring a synthesizer keyboard to use live while controlling samples and the programming. While myself playing guitar or switching to bass depending on song. We also discussed the idea of even the both of us playing bass and guitar during some songs. While the vocalist sticks to singing.
This 3-piece idea would allow gigging to be easy, minimal equipment needed to be set up, however we still need to acquire a lot of the equipment needed for performing anyways. The practice amplifiers we use aren’t loud enough for proper gigs, we lack a decent microphone, no keyboards as of yet since mine were stolen a while back, and I want a lot more effect pedals. But alas Dustin and I are pretty much broke and can’t afford the toys we desire, so we must make do with what we have for now, using our laptops for guerrilla style recording, and our schedules so far conflict so that we would only be able to write together physically during the beginning of the month.
Hopefully this project will actually make something of itself and we can use it for some of our other media project ideas such as film scoring, or perhaps by some huge stroke of luck; we can make some extra money with this or at the very least acquire more of the equipment we need. I will continue a log of all the actions I take during this project and perhaps will begin to journal all of my projects as a way of keeping myself on task.
