New Pledge of Allegiance!
New Pledge of Allegiance!
I would like to pass this on, for it really makes you wonder what is happening with our world. I for one will never be ashamed of my Lord.
Since the Pledge of Allegiance and The Lord's Prayer
are not allowed in most public schools anymore, because the word "God" is mentioned. A kid in Arizona wrote a new School prayer. Its sad that a child must write his own pledge in these words.
Now I sit me down in school
Where praying is against the rule
For this great nation under God
Finds mention of Him very odd.
If Scripture now the class recites,
It violates the Bill of Rights.
And anytime my head I bow
Becomes a Federal matter now.
Our hair can be purple, orange or green,
That's no offense; its a freedom scene.
The law is specific, the law is precise.
Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.
For praying in a public hall
Might offend someone with no faith at all.
In silence alone we must meditate,
God's name is prohibited by the state.
We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,
And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks.
They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.
To quote the Good Book makes me liable.
We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,
And the unwed daddy, our Senior King.
It's "inappropriate" to teach right from wrong,
We're taught that such "judgments" do not belong.
We can get our condoms and birth controls,
Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles.
But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,
No word of God must reach this crowd.
It's scary here I must confess,
When chaos reigns the school's a mess.
So, Lord, this silent plea I make:
Should I be shot; My soul please take!
Amen
Jesus said,
"If you are ashamed of me,
I will be ashamed of you before my Father.

That's a nice "prayer" and there is some truth to it. But...it is a Constitutional violation to recite a pledge that has religious connotations in a government school. The fact that this pledge is to be recited in a government school makes it a violation of the first amendment. If you want to be mad at someone, be mad at President Eisenhower. He signed the phrase "under God" into law in 1954, which clearly violated the first amendment that states, "Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of a religion." If the pledge was not to be recited in government schools, it would be fine, but asking students who are required to attend school to recite a pledge that mentions religion is unconstitutional.
Now before you jump on me and tell me I'm "godless", just know that I am Catholic and was raised in a Catholic family and attended private Catholic schools. Although I have a religious past, I do not let that interfere with my opinions about the rule of law. I agree that some people are a little touchy these days about religion in public and that's something they need to deal with because we do have freedom of speech, but government schools are not the place to make your stand.
Wasn't 'religious freedom' what drove the Pilgrims to seek residency in the "New World" to begin with?
Wasn't that what our nation was founded upon, was "their" belief in "God"?

You're right Dragonfly...and we do have religious freedom. The problem is, when you have government run schools and a law requiring people to attend until a certain age, then tell them they must recite a pledge as a group that mentions religion, it's wrong. The First amendment, although it states our basic freedom of speech and religion, it also says the government cannot do exactly what they did here. Now there's a difference between individuals expressing themselves at graduation or maybe a pep rally, but when it is asked that students all stand up in class and recite the pledge together, it becomes a violation, especially when it is recognized as a part of the school day and led by faculty.
