New Weight-Loss Drug, Taranabant

A new weight-loss drug has shown promise, according to an article from WebMD. Taranabant, which is in the same class as the weight-loss drug Acomplia, helped people lose weight over a 12-week study, but the article says that at higher dose it can have side effects.

Taranabant achieves weight loss by targeting brain receptors that are linked to appetite, similar to the way that Acomplia (generic name rimonabant) works. Acomplia is not approved for sale in the U.S., but has been in Europe.
