New Wineskins, Old Garments
Truthful Emotions
(Truth or Anti-depressants?)

Jesus tells us not to be hypocritical or controlling. Here is a maybe a different perspective on the parable of the new wineskins and it deals with us expressing our religious actions rightly, not that I so much believe in religious actions.

Mt 9:14 Then John’s disciples came and asked him, “How is it that we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?”
Mt 9:15 Jesus answered, “How can the guests of the bridegroom mourn while he is with them? The time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; then they will fast.
Mt 9:16 “No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch will pull away from the garment, making the tear worse.
Mt 9:17 Neither do men pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst, the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”

I’ve heard many teachings on this verse to explain being born again. If you don’t pour the Spirit into a new regenerated born again wineskin then you will ruined. But I really don’t think Jesus was talking about that it all. If we look at the passage John’s disciples were asking Jesus about fasting and Jesus replied with very interesting insights about how we religious folk tend to do religious obligations.

Jesus asks the religious folk, “How can the guests of the bridegroom mourn while he is with them?” Jesus basically asks them how can my disciples be sad when they are happy? Jesus then says, a time is coming when I will be taken away from them and they will mourn and fast. Jesus basically tells us when you are happy, rejoice; and when you are sad, fast.

Jesus goes on to talk about garments; he uses a physical picture to tell a spiritual heart issue truth, “No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch will pull away from the garment, making the tear worse.” So, he is saying, no one rejoices when they are sad because if they do, the joy will pull away from the sorrow and make the sorrow even greater.

He then reaffirms this truth will another truth by talking about new wine, “Neither do men pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst, the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined.” Jesus tells us, if we are happy and rejoicing don’t try to fast for the fast will be ruined because you just want to dance, shout, celebrate and then you will be hungry. Jesus then says, “They pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.” If you are happy rejoice before God and celebrate, if you are sad, mourn. Don’t try to fake it, live in your emotions.

How many times have you walked into a church and they want you to celebrate and you are just having a rough time and are sad about something, so you try and you end up leaving because you just can’t take it?. You see when we religious folk do that, all we are doing is lying. The people who are trying to get us to feel one way or the other are just trying to control our emotions and our souls. We see Jesus rejoicing and weeping and being sorrowful and overwhelmed, he was, and is, and always will be Truth. We as religious folk tend to be the Church of the Rejoicers, for scripture says Rejoice Always, or we tend to be the Church of the Weepers, for Scripture says, Rend you hearts, weep and wail and that it is better to enter the house of mourning than the house of laughter. So, if we enter either of these churches, one day we are in unity with them and one day we are not. When we are not in unity with them we feel or they make us feel that something is wrong with us. Either church is the church of the crazy makers, controllers and liars. For, we are not being truthful about who we are, we put on masks when we try to celebrate or fast wrongly. Don’t you think we have had enough of not being able to be who we are in Christ? So, is God a liar about his emotions? Do you think that he wants you to be a liar?

Father, we repent for lying to others with our emotions so that we could fit in. Father, Daddy, lover of our souls, we truly repent for trying to control others emotions by trying to have them feel one way or another. This is gross sin on our part, just as Jesus condemned sin in sinful man; we condemn this attitude in ourselves for you made us full of emotions, for you are full of emotions. We have tried to suppress our emotions and so all we did is tried to suppress the image of God that we are in you. Oh yes Lord, sometime we deny emotions that you use to try to tell us something needs to be worked on and repented of in us. So, my loving Father speak to us through our emotions and let us weep and rejoice with you and help me to bring each emotion to you as a first fruit of our intimate relationship, for you are my husband and I am your bride, I love you.

Woo hoo I got to repent! I GET TO BE MORE LIKE JESUS! Woot! Yeah Jesus, thank you for repentance! Woot!
