New writers: Get noticed & get published
New writers: Get noticed & get published
Every new writer dreams of getting noticed and getting published. It doesn’t matter what kind of writer you are, you will one day, want to be exposed and greeted by the literary world. It’s natural and it’s great if you are thinking this way, because you have already taken a small step in your mind to achieving this goal.
To become a successful writer and to get your work noticed in the early stages is the hardest part. A fear of rejection and lonely days and nights in front of the laptop as you batter away endlessly at the keys is common for most writers. However, if you are serious about becoming a successful writer, then these things should pass you by like water off a ducks back and nothing should stop you from getting your work noticed. As an aspiring writer in the early stages, its important to become a member of as many online writing groups as possible. This way you will get to know what is currently expected of writers and you will get to know fellow writers. Most importantly, you will be able to publish your work for all to see. There are many sites like Xomba that will pay you for publishing articles. Find out more here:

Enter as many competitions as possible. This is especially true for fiction writers. There are short story contests running constantly which offer prizes of as much as £1000 for the winner. Imagine the boost that winning a £1000 prize would give to a writing career. Potential book publishers or editors would be most impressed by this. Enter short story competitions now:

Even if you’re not a fiction writer, there are thousands of magazines out there that need new material to survive. Writers supply them with that material. Search for magazines that specialise in the subject that you write in. Subscribe to it or read several copies to see exactly what kind of articles they are looking for. Write your article and submit it, after reading the submission guidelines.
Never ever give up after receiving a rejection letter. This is the most common part in the world of writers. There are more rejections than submissions. Recover from a rejection by starting your new article. With determination, you will be where you want to be quicker than you think.

Getting noticed (and paid) as a writer
If you're a writer of fiction or nonfiction, check out the annual book Writer's Market. It lists thousands of magazines, etc. that publish articles and pieces on all kinds of topics. It gives you contact information for the publications [and Web sites, etc.], tells you what they're looking for in terms of content, length, etc., and more.
If you're a writer on a certain specialty, definitely check out Writer's Market. I know a number of professional writers who use it every day.
As far as writing competitions, these may not be a good way to go if you're really a beginning writer. Unless you've got good skill and experience, your chances of winning are pretty slim, and your work will be competing against more experienced writers. Also it often costs money to enter your writing into these contests, so you're paying out cash with a low chance of getting a return on your outlay.

I agree..
Yes, there are many competitons that you have to pay to enter, but there are many that allow you to enter for free. You have to do your homework.
My father always told me: you have to spend money to make money.

Great Article
This is a very well written article with wonderful information. I will have to check the links to the articles out. Thank you!
In Short, Write because 'That's What You Do'
Doing it aiming only for one 'goal' or another will probably lead to disappointment---even if you do reach that goal somehow, you won't like it as much as you will if you don't shoot for it.

money
spend little and earn more money.
Thats the way of bussiness.
Should spend in an effective way
'Spend Money to Make Money' Is a Road to Despair
Money should not constitute the entire equation, but only a factor of a variable helping balance the other end of work and -wisdom!
Pay for Money? I Don't Think So
I always heard that humans 'pay for products and/or -work.'
Money and Xombology
I can see paying to make money in some rare cases, but there are plenty of other situations--such as with Xomba--where you can make money without spending a thing (except some of your time).
Invest...
... I think it would be right to speak about "invest to make money". It could be time, passion and many other things, not only money.
Thanks!
great post! I've been wanting to write a book but I have been too afraid of failure.

I 'hope' new writers will be noticed in the future too. But I think a silent-point alangsummers makes is that Writers Gotta Write!

Associated Content is
Associated Content is another great place to write and get a little more exposure. You can get paid for articles and you also get $1.50 per 1000 views. It's not a ton of money, but it does add up.
Of course, there's Xomba, which is a great place to write.
Then there's also hubpages, which is another revenue sharing writing site. http://hubpages.com/_startwriting/tour/hubpages/
