New Yorkers Like It Dark

New Yorkers Like It Dark

New Yorkers like things dark right - coffee, clothing, secluded bars?

Well, as I sit here in my bright blue sweater with my vibrant red coat slung over my chair, I've decided I'm not quite ready for this. Sure, I'll wear the dark clothing and bars of any sort are fun, but I can't drink my coffee black. PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it is the cause of my morning vomits.

On Monday I got into work and made a cup of coffee. It was, "strong" coffee as my boss pointed out. There wasn't much sugar or cream in the office so the coffee went down black. About a half and hour later I was in the bathroom puking my guts out.

I figured it could be a few things - first day of work jitters (nah, probably not), bad coffee?, bad cream?, the fact that I didn't eat that morning (that wouldn't be the first time I had coffee on an empty stomach).

So now it's Friday and I made coffee again this morning. This time I bought the coffee myself, so it's good and fresh from Starbucks. I also brought in Splenda which I always use despite my boyfriend's efforts to switch me to the real thing. I didn't use any milk or cream though as we didn't have any here. So 30 minutes later I'm puking again. What gives?

I read some online blogs and commentary where people were saying they can't drink black coffee. Coffee is acidic and milk tends to help nutralize that. Maybe that's the issue. All I know is I'm a bit hesitant to down anything at this point.

Any advice?

Vomiting on coffee isn't a

Vomiting on coffee isn't a good sign hlbroeker, unless I make the coffee. Then, it's perfectly understandable. But starbucks coffee is like a cup of battery acid, no matter which variety. You might want to to somewhere else for your cofffee. Flyswatter Xomba Moderator

One of two things...

either A)..You're pregnant.....(sorry) or B)You have developed a food allergy. There is a C) possibility...ulcer. Go to your doctor and see what's up. No one else will be able to tell you for sure. And no more coffee until you do....(take care of yourself) ;) final note: coffee is a colon cleansing diuretic. Usually the caffeine content causes muscular contractions in the bowels (making most people "go"). In your case, it may be having this effect the minute it hits your stomach and long before it gets a chance to pass on to the small intestines. Again..visit your doctor. I'll take a "regular"

Drinking coffee on an empty stomach will make me somewhat nauseous, black moreso than coffee with milk. I'd recommend eating some breakfast with your coffee. As for New Yorkers, I remember going into delis and hearing customers order a "regular coffee." I assumed these customers always went to the same deli and the counter guys knew what their "regular" was, but I later realized that "regular coffee" means coffee with milk. So I'd take that to mean that the average NYC person takes their coffee with milk. But this wasn't a scientific study, just observation from a few places. You might want to go to a few different delis and order a regular coffee and see what you get--coffee with milk, a blank stare, etc. Of course, my experiences were before Starbucks even existed in NYC; all bets are off as to what would happen if you asked for a regular in there.

Sorry

Sorry to hear that. Coffee is one of my great joys in life. I drink in black, with cream, sugar, au lait, latte, espresso, cuban, and capies. Right now I drink Cafe Du Monde from the cafe in New Orleans. You can buy it on line cheap! Anyway this coffee has the root chickory in it. Some like it, most hate it and that is why in New Orleans they make it Au Lait style - with a lot of milk. You may be reacting to the caffine more than the acid. Some people just don't do caffine well. Try a decaf or a coffee mixed with something is all I can tell you.
