NFL Broadcaster John Madden Announces Retirement

John Madden, the NFL game broadcaster has announced that he will be putting down the Telestrator and retiring from broadcasting. Madden, the NBC Sunday Night Football analyst, Hall of Fame coach and 16-time Emmy winner was a leading voice in football for the past three decades. The NFL games will just get a little less colorful without him around the box. Read more on this news here.

Good for him!

While I and others find his over-enthusiatic use of the telestrator annoying and his voice a little much to take, he is undoubtedly the most recognizable voice of NFL broadcasting since Howard Cosell. I'm glad that he is retiring on his terms. It is rather ironic that he wouldn't fly to Hawaii to do the Pro Bowl because he doesn't fly ever, but the NFL is doing two Pro Bowls in Miami now that he could have driven to do.
