Nike + with iPod Nano: Your weapon for sticking to your New Year Resolution

Ana Cornacova has challenged Labron James that she can run more miles then him in the month of January. This is her New Years Resolution and Nike is the brainchild behind it. Log on to Nike's US website and they have ways to help you keep your new years resolution.....if you have the new state of the art Nike+ shoes, an iPOd sport kit and a Nano.

The kit comes with a device that you plug into your iPOd and another wireless device that you put in the pocket of the specially made Nike+ shoe. Simply exercise and run your heart out and never fear logging it in a journal again or worrying about keeping track of calories burned, distance, time, and mph. The wireless devices communicate with you. A calming voice will interrupt your music to tell you the distance you ran or the calories burned. Want to kill it? Sprint htat last half mile? Press the center button on your iPod and your energy rush song automatically starts playing.

The most unique part about the Nike+ and iPod relationship is that it comes together online. When you are finished working Nike online will keep track of your calories, distance, mph, and time spent exercising. Just upload it. The community onlineis great too. First you register online and then you make a resolution: "I promise to run --- miles this month or I will ------." You can download workouts from itunes, program runs, and make special music playlists. Nike also has specially mad shirts in short and longsleeve that have sown in iPod holders.

The shoes cost between $85 - 110
The kit cost $29
The iPod Nano $199

My suggestion is to try and get a friend to do it with you. You can IM them from the Nike sit adn challenge them like Cornacova and LaBron. You can instant message them "Distance race: loser buys lunch." If you get challenged, you can accept or decline. But working out is much more fun with a little friendly competition.

Nike+ iPod

Thanks for writing about this gizmo, have you tried it? It's pretty cool, I find it encourages me to run because I like to follow my progress. BUT, I have to add some constructive criticism here. I figured as a journalist you'd want to know about some boo-boo's in this article, including that the names of the celebrities you mention are misspelled, and one of them is the wrong celebrity. I haven't seen the TV commercial but I'm 99% sure the tennis player is Maria Sharapova. I hope you'll take this as constructive comments rather than nit-picking. P.S. Another cool thing about the Nike+ iPod gizmo is that don't even need Nike shoes. The sensor works fine if you put it in a velcro pocket (or even a small plastic baggie) and attach it to the shoelaces of any shoe!
