Conner's Corner - No Offense, but....
You know what pisses me off?
When people assume affluence based on skin-color and the financial bracket the IRS says that you're in.
Sometimes I wish I was NOT a white male in good health with a middle-class family.
Why?
Because then getting money to help with college would be a breeze.
Maybe if I was a food-stamp-fed- midget-female-immigrated-Samoan-with-three-eyeballs-and-no-legs I could get a few bucks from the government for higher education.
Alas, I'm not, so I have to do an insane amount of paperwork, give the government all my parents' tax information, as well.
I have to say that I'm dependent, even though I haven't been for the past three years, almost.
I have to go through these long lists of available scholarships, and automatically ignore 80% of them because I'm not an African-American in a nursing program or an Italian immigrant looking to be an aircraft mechanic or other crap like that.
Look them up. Ridiculous.
Just because I'm a middle-class white male the government thinks I can pay for every dime of college myself? Or my parents can?
It's hogwash. Maybe I can check to see if there are any "I'm Adopted" scholarships, because obviously, using something "unique" about yourself is the only way to get ahead in life. While I'm at it I'll move back to Jacksonville, get on unemployment, and start collecting food stamps. THEN I can afford to get back in school, because the government will feel sorry for me and pay for everything!! Yay!!!
This is crap.

Conner's Corner
Hey, I haven't seen a "Conner's Corner" post since the early day of Xomba (maybe there was just that one? About frat guys...) It seems to have gotten a lot of hits.
There are books (and probably Web sites) that list the many thousands of private scholarships available. These are private, so are not subject to the whims of a school; you apply directly to the foundation or person who runs the scholarship.
And people set up scholarships that are very specific (and sometimes bizarre)... what state a person is from, what they're studying, etc. If someone sets up their own scholarship, they can spell out exactly how they want it used. There might be one that is just perfect for you. Who knows, maybe there *is* one for adopted people.
It's worth looking into. And easier than growing third eye.
