As an American, I will cast my vote for President of the United State in about two months. I believe it is my civic duty to get involved in the election process no matter how little my vote really counts because of the Electoral College, but that's for another story. My dilemma is that I don't like either Barack Obama or John McCain. There was once a time when I was registered with a party but I have since become an independent.

When I was much younger, I once asked my father why he was an independent. His answer was simple. He said, "they're all crooks." Cynical? Prehaps. Accurate? Probably closer to the truth than we'd like to admit.

I am neither a Republican or a Democrat. I am what I consider to be an average American: married with four boys (ok...that part might not be average). I work hard to support my family to allow my wife to be a stay at home mom (her decision - which I support), pay the bills and put food on the table.

The problem is that no one seems to listen to the average American. I feel disenfranchised. When oil prices were skyrocketing, what did our political leaders do? They did a lot of talking and there was no action. In the meantime, I'm trying to figure out the best way to maximize the mileage in my car, van and motorcycle.

With the home loan crisis, out political leaders scrambled to make sure the companies that were stupid enough to make these loans don't go under. Then our leaders decide the government should get involved to protect full grown adults from losing their houses because they signed a contract for a loan they should have fully understood. What about me? I made sure I knew what I was doing with my loan. I saved money and made careful decisions. Where's my reward?

Getting back to the presidential election. Who do I trust with the future of our country? We are in a recession. We have problems with illegal aliens (the term non-documented workers is a load of crap) invading our country and expecting us to speak their language...and yes, I'm speaking of people south of the border. Thanks to Bush, Jr., we have more government intervention that I can ever remember. Crime rates are increasing because the economy is in trouble.

So, the question is, do I cast my vote for McCain and run the risk of four more years of Bush-like politics or do I vote for Obama who is still so new that he is wet behind the ears. Do I cast my vote for None of the Above to protest both candidates or do I write in the name of someone who I think will do a better job that the two party lackeys...not that I can think of anyone.

I just know that in about two months, I'll step into the voting booth and I'll make a decision. It's just that right now, I don't like either one. None of the Above begins to sound really appealing.
