Nude in Vermont

In the quaint, bohemian town of Brattleboro, Vermont, it is not unusual to see someone ride by on a bicycle--butt naked. Others, who are in less of a hurry simply walk down the street naked.

These incidents have yet to result in a ticket or an arrest. In this small town of 12,000 people, public nudity is not illegal (unless, of course there is some type of obscenity involved).

When one resident took offense to a group of nude teenagers quite literally hanging out in a parking lot, one stunned member of the underclothed group replied: "We're bored."

Next hot vacation destination?

on a fact-finding mission and the reports of public nudity by young persons has been confirmed. Apparently these youths were hanging out and some were painted each other's nude bodies. Maybe they were hoping that if they did body painting the Warped Tour would come through town, or the Red Hot Chili Peppers would show up.

I'm just glad it was *young* people being in the nude; don't think I'd want to see some of Brattleboro's 60-year-old hippies in the buff!

They do that in Oberlin, OH so I hear.

And in Berkeley, I once met an elderly lady with breasts as saggy and wrinkled as her hippie skirt.

I've been going to Brattleboro for 25 years (I have family there) but have never seen anyone naked in public. Apparently I'm hanging out in the wrong part of town. Brattleboro definitely often has the feel of a 1960s hippie town, though...
