Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize: He Deserves It, He Deserves It Not

On October 9 2009, our forty-fourth U.S. President, Barack Obama, received the Nobel Peace Prize. He deserves it, he deserves it not. We might as well pluck petals from a daisy and see which phrase ends with the last petal. But does the answer matter? The deed is done.

Why not award an honorary Nobel Peace Prize to all the war protesters during the Vietnam War who said, “Hell no, we won’t go.” Which is what President Obama should be saying regarding sending troops into Afghanistan, again. And why not award a posthumous Nobel Peace Prize to John Lennon who sang, “All we are saying, is give peace a chance” and “the war is over… if you want it”. Imagine.

Regarding solutions to problems, President Obama is light years ahead of ex-president George W. Bush, a global playground bully, who recoiled from solving eco-system issues and developing a foreign policy for peace as if they were nasty childhood medicines being forced down his throat. Our present president at least wants to make changes for the better. Yet he falls light years behind in taking a steadfast stand to end all fighting and to rein in capitalists’ insatiable greed, which has not only depleted natural resources but also has caused economic ruination for much of America’s strong Middle Class, rapidly become as fabled as the American dream.

So what does President Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize mean in the face of such goliath global and domestic problems? It means there is hope. As parents dress their children in clothes that are too big so they’ll grow into them, the Norwegian Nobel Committee has given Barack Obama the chance to grow into greatness as a world leader.
