Obama Inauguration Cost

Obama Inauguration Cost

President Bush's second Inaugural Ball cost an estimated 42 million dollars. It was suggested by the Democrats that President Bush cancel his Inaugural Ball. The request was backed up with the arguments that the money could be used to, armor Humvee's, pay down the record deficit that we had or it could be used to help the victims of the recent Tsunami.
Fast forward to the present, President Obama's Inaugural Ball cost an estimated 160 million dollars. I know that security costs weren't included in the cost of President Bush's 2005 Ball as it was for Obama's Ball. The estimated cost for Obama's security was 100 million dollars which would bring the cost for the Ball to around 60 million dollars.
Given a 4% increase over the last 4 years, Obama's Inaugural Ball still cost 10.9 million dollars more than President Bush's. Where are all of the Democrats that were crying in 2005? Is it different because Obama's a Democrat? Or is it just because, "It's Obama". I believe that the latter just may be the case, especially if you listen to Lisa Gladden(D) MD State Representative who said, "it doesn't matter that the State of Maryland is broke, as long as Barak Obama is President of the United States, this is going to be great". Can you imagine if a Republican said that about John McCain? The uproar would be of biblical proportions. Wake up America, and not just Democrats either, all of you Republicans who were bamboozled by his charm. A lot of you believe that, "he" will make everything all better. All I'm asking is that when you realize that you've been taken, please speak up to your friends and representatives. This is only the beginning of a whole host of things that you may not be expecting.

$42 Million is cheap when you give away $700 Billion.

Yea, $42 Million, hell, that cheap for a country who gave the parasite bankers $700 Billion. +1 "It does matter what you believe, but, what you believe does not matter if you do not act upon your beliefs." "you can not vote on the truth" --Pope John Paul II, 1995

Inauguration expenses

Obama's inauguration crowd has been said to be 1.2 to 1.8 million people; Bush's second inauguration was said to be 400,000. So Obama's costs would be more if only because of additional security needed for the bigger crowds. I was concerned about the costs for inauguration security when I first heard about it, then I realized how great it was that there are actually a million or so Americans who are interested enough in an inauguration to go see it in person in sub-freezing weather, and stand for hours to do so. Often times we hear that Americans are apathetic about government, so I think it's a good thing that so may people wanted to be present at the inauguration, which is one of the few free ways for average people to take part in a historic event. I don't remember Dems complaining about Bush's 2005 inauguration cost, but maybe it was because they felt a second-term inauguration should be more low-key? (I personally feel there shouldn't be inaugural balls and all the hoopla for a second term. The guy's already been in office for four years; just swear him in again and be done with it.)

Obamas Inaugural cost

When you look at the breakdown of the numbers, what the taxpayers are "on the hook" for is the cost of security and logistics. The actual cost of the parties is taken care of through private donations. After further digging the estimated cost of security for President Bush's 2005 security was 110 million dollars and the cost for President Obama's in 2009 was 124 million dollars. That basically works out to be the same as 2005. The point I'm making is this, we are in a financially poorer position, we are involved in two wars and there are still millions of other people around the world who could still use Americas financial help. We have a print and TV media that pushed President Bush down every chance they had, and lifted up President Obama every chance they had. Obama is not the cure all. I believe he will bring more woes to our country regardless of costs both financial and moral. We have become a nation of groups and entitlements that do nothing but divide our nation and President Obama is the poster child of that mentality.

Again, with the fixation with raw numbers

Please break down that final cost into public money vs. private money. If you are going to make a point about alleged partisan hypocrisy, then you should be looking at what actually cost the American taxpayer money and not a total amount, most of which was donated/put up by private individuals and organizations.
