Obama's speech to Muslim world - Religion, freedom and democracy
posted June 4, 2009 - 9:29amToday, president Obama came to Cairo and made a Speech to the Muslim world. Many people in the Muslim world have talked alot about this visit and had many expectations about this speech. The interesting thing that Obama talked alot about Islam and even said some verses from the Quran. < p>
He really tried to be balanced in his speech and be friendly as much as possible. He also said some facts about how the Islamic religion is being misunderstood and that Islam allows everyone his freedom of religion and how Islam tolerates other religions, mentioning Andalusia and Cordoba.
The problem with each American president is the same and it's very obvious : Israel. Obama tried to speak about the 2 countries soluton. Obama said :
"Israel must also live up to its obligations to ensure that Palestinians can live, and work, and develop their society. And just as it devastates Palestinian families, the continuing humanitarian crisis in Gaza does not serve Israel’s security"
He also advised the Palestinians to abandon violence and mentioned the rocket launched by Hamas, but he didn't mention anythin about Israel being totally brutal and irrespective for any of the international laws, he didn't mention how many civilins were killed in Gaza and how many war crimes Israel has committed.
He said :
"On the other hand, it is also undeniable that the Palestinian people – Muslims and Christians – have suffered in pursuit of a homeland."
But who caused this suffering? They are the "poor" Israelis that simply occupied Muslims' lands! Obama also mentioned the Holocaust.
Some Americans think that it's dangerous to be that friendly with other countries! The problem in my opinion and this is why American governments are hated by Arabs is that no matter who is the president of the U.S, Israel gets full support to continue theirmassacres in Palestine even if his speeches were so friendly to Muslims and he asked Israelis to stop occupying and killing.
I think the only nation that notices a difference between an american president and another is the American people. Each president will make some changes in economy, industry, taxes, laws and other issues, but the outer relationships and policies remain the same. I hope that Obama is a little different from Bush but I don't expect miracles from him.
