Hey, the unemployment system is there for a reason, congrats on the windfall. As far as the link between state unemployment benefits and the economic stimulus, I'm not sure that they are interrelated. State governments are responsible for funding their state unemployment coffers, and some states' funds were more shored up than others. As of an article I wrote two weeks ago, there were eight states that had just plain ran out of unemployment funds and were borrowing from the feds. This isn't federal bail out cash, it's loans that the states will need to pay back to the feds. In short, it's just the state going deeper in debt to the federal government. Or whatever. Those checks are keeping folks above water for now, but it's the definition of a stop gap measure. Interesting times

Settle down, "dear buddy." First of all, since this new unemployment money is a gift from taxpayers, you should be thanking all of them/us. It matters not whether this is your first time in 27 years collecting it - you're collecting it and that extra cash was not produced from your hard work. (It's actually not produced by anyone's hard work. We're just printing funny money right now. But we will all be paying dearly when the hyperinflation hits.) Secondly, I applaud your volunteer work. However, just because you volunteer, it does not mean other people should pay for your necessities or luxuries. Just like you volunteer your time, others volunteer their money. If they want their money to go to you, then that's fine. When the government tells them their money is going to you, then it's a problem.
