Obama Swears Second Oath But Without a Bible

As expected, Barack Obama did have to swear the Oath of Office a second time, this time in a more intimate setting with just a few of the press corp. However, some Americans may feel the new President has made yet another blunder by not swearing on the Bible. Amazingly, given the God-squad in America, not a bible was found anywhere near the swearing in. As the TimesOnline reported, one blogger snarled "Expect a third oath when bitter small town gun- and Bible-toting America finds out."

However, one commenter, Jeff from Sacramento quipped,"Why don't we make everyone happy and we can swear him in everyday and bring a stack of books each time." Now, does the second reading invalidate the first one, or should we take them as cumulative, or an average? Will half a Bible do?

They Ought to Condense JCSS to One Song@Rycharde Manne-mythman

I forgot that "Too Much Heaven on Their Minds" was the tone-setter for the show; maybe that's why I'm such an atheist---because all church-service etc. are subliminally prefaced by a thought like, 'All these people are just here to put a layer of happy-tar over their sad, painful, shame-ridden lives.' I know there was ~kind of~ a repeat of that song at Judas' suicide. Maybe the fact that he was always alone when 'his mind was clearer now' was a strategy to keep that song as Judas' part of the ministry (rather than associating it with the rest of the disciples). But I think we WANT an administration to be 'thinking clearly now,' and to be 'among the mass public' when they do so. Working out a one-song musical with a medley of all the JCSS-songs would help do that! ---GET MONEY FREE for having fans ONLINE, writing about Buddhist Chant, Dr. Hot4Words, Time-Travel, Divine Art

@Ryc.M--"For the Last 7 Days" Refers to When It Was Written, ...

... not 'when it was last rated.' I think that after 7 days pile-up in each article's history, it drops off the eligibility-list for front-page 'top rated'-status (though I'm sure it can still pile on votes and maybe become featured). It IS odd that a creature as benevolent as Abmox would run his feature on such personal activity (rather than INTERactivity), but he's only ONE mythological purple alien; what can HE do? ---GET MONEY FREE for having fans ONLINE, writing about Buddhist Chant, Dr. Hot4Words, Time-Travel, Divine Art

My mind is clearer now

You remind me, Jesus Christ Superstar, great musical, saw it twice on stage in London. I usually can't be bothered with musicals but e were taken to watch this by one of out teachers... our religion teacher of all things, but being mid 1970s he probably thought it was cool or fab. Judas's first song sets the tone "My mind is clearer now, at last I can see where we all soon will be." too bloody right! Join Xomba Here

@Martin123--"Religulous" is Okay, but Not as Good as "DOGMA"

True, maybe *Religulous* was a 'documentary' where *DOGMA* was more a 'comic fantasy'; but do you think more people go to church for the way things actually happened or for the glad stories the old ones tell? :-P ---GET MONEY FREE for having fans ONLINE, writing about Buddhist Chant, Dr. Hot4Words, Time-Travel, Divine Art

@veghead--How Catholics Do the Bible

You're mostly right about that ... 'entirely right' if you pick a Catholic's brain on it, but ... the over-riding Catholic-read of the Bible is one message--something like 'BE GOOD!'--and the Catholic subconscious works "whatever section of either the Bible OR 'God's Word' today (the divine influence plus the way things go in cause-and-effect)" INTO that message. ---GET MONEY FREE for having fans ONLINE, writing about Buddhist Chant, Dr. Hot4Words, Time-Travel, Divine Art

where's this article gone?

strange! came here to read a new comment and just noticed that this article has dropped from 2nd place on the Highest Rated down to nowhere at all! Most of the votes were from the last 3 or 4 days. Curiouser and curiouser... Join Xomba Here

@veghead--Clarifying 'Divinity in Buddhism'

I would call "divinity" here 'a power that makes things happen.' Thus the nonhumans respond to 'nature's forces' (whatever happens to them, usually ... no "will" of their own but that which lengthens survival). You're putting Buddhism into a more-historical perspective; Nichiren Buddhism's chant is an encapsulation of the entire pattern of life itself - as it is now, not 'as our children and children's children to the final generation shall remember their ancient ancestors' (except that the way life is hasn't changed). ~Myo~--the second-syllable of the six-syllable chant--is the 'acknowledgment' of divine power---the part of 'the universal sound' that one discerns to be wise teachings. ---GET MONEY FREE for having fans ONLINE, writing about Buddhist Chant, Dr. Hot4Words, Time-Travel, Divine Art
