Ode to my Honeybear - a love poem

Inspired by others, I thought I’d share this little ditty that I wrote for my husband, Tim. Technically, it’s a song but (praise God) I can’t sing it for you here.

We were actually engaged at the time. He had custody of his three kids and the only ‘dates’ we could afford were low budget family outings. Tim also had thinning hair and a bit of a comb-over. His kids (5, 10, and 12 at the time) used to give him a hard time about his balding condition. One day we were on our way to someplace (church maybe?) and the oldest (Tim Jr.) was giving him a particularly hard time. I could tell that Tim was feeling really insecure and he kept asking me if I was okay with his lack of hair. I got tired of telling him over and over again that I loved him not his hair when the first two lines of this little song popped into my head. I grabbed a napkin and jotted them down so I would lose them. Then I worked on it for a bit and came up with the rest.

I sing it to him frequently just for fun. I have threatened to share it with our church at one of the annual talent shows but it’s never quit worked out.

Anyway, it goes something like this:

I’m in love with my Honeybear,
I don’t care
If he has no hair.

He’s the one that I want to be,
Side-by me
For eternity.
