Of China Africa Courtship

The Chinese entry to Africa has been met with a lot of caution, but more needs to be observed. China has left many wondering about its real agenda in Africa. Just to mention but a few; At the height of political crisis in Kenya, the Kenyan opposition leaders alleged that a ship had docked at the Kenyan port of Mombasa with an assortment of unspecified Chinese weaponry ordered by the Kenyan government just days to the general elections, the timing of the deadly cargo was forth-right questionable; the Chinese government never gave a comment. Why would China ship weapons to Kenya at that particular time? At what cost?
A similar scenario has just dawned in Zimbabwe, a Chinese ship with 1500 grenades and other deadly weapons docked in South African waters with the cargo headed to Zimbabwe, thanks to the South African court and dock worker who never allowed the cargo offload, The cargo was headed to Harare which as described by Zambian President “a sinking Titanic”, is this the right time to send weapons to Zimbabwe where reports indicate that over ten people have died and thousands injured in the post-election violence, the Zimbabwean opposition further claim that camps have been set up by the government to torture and intimidate voters a head of the anticipated presidential runoff . The Chinese role in Darfur not withstanding; the question remains what does China benefit in return? Is this the best China can do for Africa? Will this courtship lead to a sincere marriage? Will the marriage last a single anniversary?
