Older Workers Stuck Between Retirement and Keeping Their Job

Older Workers Stuck Between Retirement and Keeping Their Job

Articles like this irritate me. Here are workers in their 50s who are stuck...not old enough to retire but too young to stop working. Here they work their whole life to be down-sized out of a job and what if they are like my dad who has "pre-existing" health concerns? Good luck finding any job at that point. I am embarrassed that we treat these valuable employees in a manner that's not respectful to their contribution. Maybe I'm just in a cranky mood today, but we need to find better solutions to this problem as one day, we will be them.

Good point Antonella

And I think the work ethic of older people is one that younger people can appreciate. Like the guy in the article, he is still wanting to contribute to the work force but not given the chance. It's not getting easier for anyone these days either (teens included!) Peace, Mia NW Visit my recent posts at: http://www.xomba.com/user/mia_northwest Get paid to be a xombie! Teach...

... at 90! My best piano teachers were about 90 years old... I think it is very important to be active for the whole life: I know old "young"people and young "old" people. Your brain is more important than your age.

That's too bad because my dad

That's too bad because my dad is one of the hardest working people I know. I understand the hiring mom or dad thing, but I have yet to meet a lazy 50-something year old! No one wants to hire their Dad or Mom...

For older folks who are looking for new employment, what they do not realize is that younger-folks, who usually do the hiring, just don't want to hire anyone who is like their Mom or Dad. And, they don't mean to be that way, its just an age-thing. when I was in my 30s, I didn't want to hire my Mom or Dad either. And, they really don't focus on the age-thing, it's just something that happens.
