Olympic games are exciting!

Olympic games are exciting!

I am not really into sports, well I like basketball, handball, and in-line skating. Okay, okay, I do like sports, but I don't like watching them on TV. However, lately with the Olympics I have gotten a new interest in sports. I have been staying up really late just so I can watch the Olympic games live. They turned out to be pretty fun and I find myself jumping out of my chair cheering the American players on.

I especially find the swimming competitions to be fascinating. Just today I was watching the 800m, that was long and I felt so bad for the players. Some of them looked exhausted; by the time they finished they could barely catch their breath. It was really amazing though to see their determination, especially once the bells rung.

Michael Phelps is really fast! I have never seen someone swim with such speed, but he always seems disappointed at the end of the race. It seems that he always feels like he could have done better. Am I the only one noticing this?

Phelps

Yes, you're definitely right every person expresses their emotions differently. I did see how he cheers his teammates and that is really awesome. However, you might be right, maybe he is saving all the excitement for the end. It's definitely a very stressful event and there is a lot to put up with. Did you see his schedule?! Wow!

Phelps

I think that race where he tossed the goggles was the one with the water in the eyes problem. He was cheering like a madman after his team won the relay. My guess is he's holding in the excitement and trying to keep an even keel until he finishes all his races. Or maybe he's just not one of those people who doesn't go around jumping up and down and pumping his fist over his own accomplishments. I think the TV commentators get too caught up in what makes for good TV: people laughing, crying, emoting, stuff they can fit into a three-second film clip in the highlights. They seem to think that if a person doesn't wear his emotions on his sleeve, he must not have any emotions. But, every person is different and responds to success (and failure) in his or her own way.

Maybe, but there are other races where Phelps wasn't too excited

I actually missed this race! I kept hearing about it, but I did not see it. The thing is I don't see the excitement of winning on his face. You see how psyched up other winners get, but he just doesn't get excited. Even the announcers where talking about how at one point after winning he just casually threw his goggles and hat off like nothing has happened.

Michael Phelps

I've only seen one race where he really looked disappointed, and he was: he had been hoping to set a world record or beat a certain time, but his goggles filled up with water and he actually couldn't see the last part of the race. I guess he knew he could have broken the record if only his goggles hadn't interfered.
