One Pat Boone's Ignorant WorldNet Daily Essay

The WorldNet Daily recently published a commentary by Pat Boone where he compared the recent terrorist attacks in Mumbai, India to the protests against California's Proposition 8. Such an unconcienable statement goes beyond mere insanity: It's downright offensive to anyone who believes in the right to voicing political dissent. It's on par Christian fundamentalists blaming the gays for the attacks of 9/11. Seeing that Boone belongs to this group of fanatics, his remarks don't surprise me all that much. It surprises me even less that an extreme right-wing crackpot site like WND would publish such garbage.

Boone stated in the WorldNet Daily essay:

Well, if current theories and intel are correct, this slaughter was planned and executed by one of many Islamic groups that feel directed by their religion to subjugate - or exterminate - "infidels" like Hindus, Jews, Christians and even other Muslims who don't hew to their extremist views. To them, there is only one acceptable worldview - a theology they intend to enforce on all humankind - and anyone who might disagree or obstruct their goals should be removed, violently if need be...Have you not seen the awful similarity between what happened in Mumbai and what's happening right now in our cities?

So, in Boone's demented mind, the Proposition 8 protesters are likened to murderous Islamic terrorists who are compelled by a twisted interpretation of their religion to kill all those who don't subscribe to it. As if understanding he went a little to far with this outlandish comparison -- but didn't see fit to edit it in any way -- he adds this:

Oh, I know the homosexual "rights" demonstrations haven't reached the same level of violence, but I'm referring to the anger, the vehemence, the total disregard for law and order and the supposed rights of their fellow citizens. I'm referring to the intolerance, the hate seething in the words, faces and actions of those who didn't get their way in a democratic election, and who proclaim loudly that they will get their way, no matter what the electorate wants!

I see. While they're not terrorists now, the gay activists will soon morph into killing machines, slaughtering everyone who opposes their desire to live their lives as they choose. It makes perfect sense -- if you're a blithering moron, and a monumental bigot, I suppose.

What I doubt Mr. Boone would understand is that much of what he's expressed in the above quotes could more perfectly be applied to the aging crooner then gay activists. While I'm not condoning any protests that turn violent -- or obstruct the daily lives of citizens -- one has to take into consideration that Proposition 8 is doing exactly what Boone claims he is against: One group trying to impose their beliefs -- or their standard of living -- an another. It's a bit of a double standard.

Allowing gays to marry certainly isn't going to effect the lives of straight people. I could care less how they choose to live their lives. It's not bothering me in the least if they are allowed to acquire a marriage certificate. On the other hand, Prop 8 effects the lives of homosexuals by allowing a majority -- an in my opinion a misguided one -- to dictate their will. And let's face it: America is filled with troglodytic boobs who are easily led by religious spokesmen like Pat Boone. The founding fathers knew this. That's why they created a constitutional republic, as opposed to a true democracy. The majority should never be allowed to "dictate their will" as they have in California.

I'd say Mr. Boone should throughly examine the "hatred", "intolerance" and "violence" associated with his own belief system before making such careless, ignorant pronouncements. The next time a deranged Christian decides to set off a bomb inside an abortion clinic, I wonder if he would be so quick to make similar comparisons -- or expend the energy to write an essay. I highly suspect not.

It's been a long time

since I have heard anything about Pat Boone. The last interview I can remember was when his daughter, Debbie, had made "You Light Up My Life." Remember that song? Anyway, I was turned off of Pat Boone a long time ago. He gave this interview and came across to me as a pompous a**. Just my impression, but sounds like you kind of got the same one... Take a deep breath kj, inhale, exhale...feel the anger of stupid people leave your body... ;) I dare ya...c'mon you know you want to...Smile! MJ
