Online Dating...not just for losers anymore

In a busy world filled with cell phones that take pictures and accept email, Ipods that store as much as a computer, and talking maps built into our cars, why is that people are still ashamed to be looking for love online? We look for everything else on the net, why not romance, companionship or mere sex? My generation is that of spoiled brats who expect everything to be at our fingertips. We want what we want and we want it when we want it. Well the world has gotten to the point where we can get it. I know several people who turn to their computer rather than the crowded bar scene, yet they are apprehensive when someone asks how they met their recent date. I wonder why.

Personally, I would rather meet someone who states that they have similar interests and is looking for the kind of relationship that I am in search of, rather than the kind of caliber that has approached me at the local bar scene. What easier way to do so than a search engine? After all, we spend time making friends on line with Myspace or Friendster. One goes to a popular bar these days and gets bombarded by college kids perfecting the art of alcoholism. With any luck there will be some middle-aged divorcees on the scene, carrying much baggage no doubt. Where are the average single twenty and thirty-somethings?

Even Dr. Phil has committed himself to helping out. He wants to make sure that you find the person that you are looking for. So I say, embrace it, explore it, and the next time your girlfriend asks where you found your latest beau, tell her that it was online, the same night that you bought that fab bag she wants to borrow…
