Online Dating Profile - Or Is It A Real Estate Ad?

It's all about the marketing. Whether you are dating on line, selling real estate or pushing mutual funds, the initial pitch is very important.  Real estate ads are similar to on line dating profiles in that they put the best positive spin on a potentially serious flaw.  In real estate, one learns to be wary of certain words or phrases. If the real estate ad boasts 'private', it usually means 'the Uni Bomber once lived here'  or 'property quarantined due to swine/avian flu/sars/anthrax'. The same is true of an online dating profile. If the profile says 'enjoys campfires and dragon flies', what it means is, 'I am an arsonist who enjoys burning insects with my crack lighter'. If a real estate ad says 'yard is low maintenance' what it means is 'house is located on top of the Empire State Building beside the HIV testing lab ' the same way 'loyal, fastidiously clean and communicable disease free' means 'I'm insane and no one will hang out with me. I wash my hands incessantly and carry germicide in my pen protector case. I ensure my partner's hands, feet and ear lobes are sanitary by conducting routine, random tissue smear tests'.

If the real estate ad reads 'needs TLC', what it means is 'the CRD has declared the residence a disaster zone' in the same way 'energetic, fun loving man who is close to his  family, seeks easy going sensuous woman to spend the occasional evening with'  really means 'ADD medication snorter who sleeps curled up in a wicker basket  on the floor beside his mother's bed wants to have sex in public with a heavily medicated exhibitionist'.

As consumers of anything, we must pay attention to the way something is made (its inception and ancestry), the way it is presented as well as its real, hidden value.
